So, I shared some tips and a behind-the-scenes look at the vintage airplane baby shower I recently planned for our very own Nicole Schussel here. Now, for the finished details!Once guests walked in, we had a Polaroid camera for guests to snap a photo under the DIY #hashtag banner and then tape it in a photo album with a sweet message for the mother-to-be!
Nicole absolutely loved this idea. It made for a great keepsake for the guest of honor and was super easy and fun!
But first, coffee
And of course, no shower is a shower without a Mimosa bar — right?? We had plenty of non-alc beverages – water, iced tea, lemonade and the mother-to-be’s favorite, La Croix.
The food was all inside, but we ate brunch outside. The food was delicious!
Unfortunately, I didn’t get any photos of the table settings (ugh) — a huge gust of wind came right as guests started showing so we had to scramble (#gofigure) — so you can just imagine them
I used navy blue fabric from Joann’s as the table cloth with grey/white striped squares for runners. Each table had a few pieces as decor: globes, frames, planes. We didn’t use any flowers for the shower. After guests ate, we moved inside for presents, games and dessert
PS, how cute is Nicole (and the gifts:)??
And of course, we can’t forget dessert!
First, we had dark chocolate-covered grahams (to go along with the Graham theme – baby boy’s name!:)
Next, we had mini bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cake in Thousand Oaks.
And finally, our favorite touch, the “flotation devices” aka mini donuts
Oh, and Nicole’s mother-in-law also made little chocolate airplanes which were friggin’ adorable! I mean…
We broke the present opening time up a bit by playing a video of Brett, the dad-to-be, answering questions about parenthood. Nicole had to guess what his answer was — mom or dad. It was really fun and Nicole guessed most of them right, of course
We also had “Well Wishes” for guests to fill out during the presents.
And for favors, we went with a DIY “in-flight snacks” bar, which was really fun. The guests seem to love it too, so that’s always a good thing!
The idea started off with pretzels and peanuts (typical airplane food), but of course we had to add more goodies:)
Dark chocolate and yogurt covered pretzels were necessities, and the mother-to-be absolutely loves licorice so I had to include that as well — plus it went with the color scheme (all from Trader Joe’s:).
The baby’s name is Graham, so we incorporated a lot of graham cracker snacks and sweets throughout the shower for that personal touch:)
All guests got a Thank You goody bag at “baggage claim” and filled them up with “in-flight snacks” for their drive home. Turned out pretty cute, huh?!
That’s a wrap on our DIY Vintage Airplane baby shower for Nicole! Let us know if you have any questions or thoughts in the comments below! We’d love to hear from you!
