As avid DIY-ers, we have been loooving the new emergence of local artisans offering workshops on how to get crafty + creative in their own specialty.
One such artisan, Heather Brown from Brown & Co. Designs, has been offering brush lettering workshops that seem to sell out within hours of announcing a new one!
Lucky for us, we snagged two seats at her latest one, held at MadeWest Brewery in Ventura. Even on a Tuesday night, this workshop was completely sold out [and had been for over a month!].
Tanisha and I showed up to MadeWest to a lovely sight — friendly faces, an adorable folder with our name hand-lettered on the front, and most importantly… cupcakes. cheese. and BEER.
After meeting two really sweet girls sitting across from us at our table, we began! Heather went through basic concepts, and was always available to give us some tips and tricks when we felt like our handwriting looked like Kindergarteners learning how to write for the first time 
Luckily, the beer kicked in, which at first seemed to negatively impact our writing, but then, all of a sudden, we got AWESOME. Maybe we just didn’t notice our mistakes as much, or maybe, we just didn’t care? Whatever it was, we had fun.
We walked away from that workshop with a new skill, some new friends, a few fancy pens, and tons of materials so that we could continue our writing practice in the days following. I even walked away with this beautiful succulent planter that had been brush-lettered to say, “be still.” I sure do love a good giveaway!
This is the perfect activity for a girl’s night, a baby shower, or bridal shower — we are also loving the idea of a “brush + brunch” event that has been held before! Workshops are held at locations all over the 805, such as Relm Wine + Beer Bistro, Camarillo Ranch, and Bellissimo Salon & Boutique.
